Ultrasound/Echocardiogram Exam Preparation Sheet
Ultrasound
Biousound Esaote Caris Probes equipment is provided.
Tests provided:
OB - detect age and size of fetus/and any congenital defects.
Gyn/Pelvic - determine fibroids present, cysts, carcinoma
Abdomen - detect gallbladder stones, kidney stones, any abnormalities in the liver,
spleen, pancreas, etc.
Vascular - detect arterial venous flow, rule out peripheral vascular disease,
deep vein thrombosis, venous insufficiency, arteriosclerosis.
Carotid - detect blood flow and rule out stenosis and/or calcified plaque
Small Parts - muscle tissue, joints, ligaments, tendons, arthritis and degenerative
joint disease. Thyroid, prostate, testes, any abnormalities in breast tissue (cysts
or tumors).
Echocardiogram
Biosound Esaote Cans Probes Ultrasound/Echo equipment is provided.
Test provided:
Echocardiogram measures cardiac output and aids in the detection of abnormal
cardiac anatomy, infections, and abnormal blood flow through heart valves.
Used for:
Detection of coronary artery disease, heart failure, heart muscle diseases and
heart valve abnormalities to include aorta stenosis, mitral valve prolapse, mitral
regurgitation, LVH, cardiomyopathy, CHF, or any congenital heart defects.

The patient is to have a low fat dinner the night preceding the examination. Starting the day prior to the appointment, take two tablets of Mylanta gas, preferably (80mg tabs). Turns or Rolaids are to be taken after dinner, and also in the morning of the examination.

On the day of the examination the patient can have water, juice, black coffee, tea, clear jello, or bouillon cube. No milk, dairy products, carbonated beverages, or anything greasy.

The patient is to have a cleansing
enema (fleets), or soapsuds enema (1/2 tsp liquid soap) the night before or
morning of the appt., at least 7 to 8 hours prior to exam. After the enema the patient must stay on clear liquid (no solid foods).

Patient must drink four 8 oz glasses
of water (32oz) approximately one hour prior to the appointment. Do not void (do not urinate) after drinking the water until after your ultra sound examination
is over. A full bladder is necessary.
CHILD UNDER 12 YEARS OF AGE

PREGNANCY |
Patient must drink four(8oz.)glasses of water (total 32oz.)starting one hour prior
to the examination. After 3 months of pregnancy, patient must drink three (8oz.)
glasses of water (total 24oz.). after 6 months of pregnancy, patient must drink two (8oz.) glasses of water (total 1 6oz.). after 8 months of pregnancy, patient
should drink one glass of water (8oz.). Patient should not void (urinate) until after test is completed. A full bladder is necessary.
